He was born in Ioannina in 1959.

He is married with two children.
Profession:
A member of the Athens Bar Association. He studied at the Athens Law School and worked from 1988 to 1989 at a legal practice in London on a British Council Scholarship.

Parliamentary Activities

In the parliamentary election of 2000 he was elected for the first time as a New Democracy MP for the constituency of Ioannina.
He was re-elected in the parliamentary elections of 2004, 2007, 2009, 2012 (twice), 2015 (twice) and 2019.
In 2006 he was appointed deputy Parliamentary Spokesperson of New Democracy by the Prime Minister.
In 2007 he was appointed Deputy Minister of National Defence.
In February 2010 he was elected Secretary General of the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy.
In 2014 he was appointed Minister of Culture and Sports, a post he held until January 2015.
In 2018 he was appointed General Rapporteur of New Democracy for the Revision of the Constitution.
In 2019 he is elected President of the Hellenic Parliament.
He is re-elected President of the Hellenic Parliament in May 2023.
He is elected President of the Hellenic Parliament for the third time in July 2023.

Political/Social Activities

He was the private secretary of Evangelos Averof-Tositsas, the late Honorary President of New Democracy from 1981 to 1990 and a special advisor at the Ministries of National Economy, Trade and Agriculture (1989 -1990).
He was the Chairperson of the Export Promotion Agency from 1990 to 1993.
He was elected on the municipal council of the Municipality of Kifissia in 1990.
In 1994 he was elected Mayor of Kifissia.
In June 2013 he was named President of the Konstantinos Karamanlis Institute for Democracy.
